Science

Science

Science at Bishop Blanchet is characterized by a desire to know and understand the natural world using the tools of a scientist. In practical terms, this means doing science. Consequently, all science classes taught at BBHS are laboratory based, emphasizing the skills and processes used by scientists to characterize the world around us. An attempt to keep technology current and apply scientific knowledge to issues of the day is also made. Science students are encouraged to

  • Apply logical and critical thinking skills when evaluating a scientific problem
  • Organize what they learn into a framework that is useful and apply that information to new situations.
  • Clearly communicate their findings in written, mathematical and oral formats.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and interest in scientific issues.
  • Take pride and enjoyment in their own work and progress.
  • Recognize their responsibility as a concerned citizen to take ownership for scientific findings and their uses.
  • Use an ethical framework to critically analyze scientific issues that impact our society, understanding that many public policies impact science, technology and capital.
